Receiving the call to be God’s messenger.
At 18, I experienced a dramatic conversion and unexpectedly began hearing God's voice. Though new to Christianity and the Bible, I soon realised God gives various gifts to help build His church—mine was hearing His guidance.
God often spoke to me through scripture, even when I was unfamiliar with it. Verses would come to mind, and through His word and Spirit, He made His messages clear.
During a church service, I felt God speak to me three times in five minutes. First, I heard, "I have called you to be my news reporter." Then, I was prompted to read Ezekiel 2.
Ezekiel’s Call to Be a Prophet - Ezekiel 2:1-8
He said to me, “Son of man, stand up on your feet and I will speak to you.” As he spoke, the Spirit came into me and raised me to my feet, and I heard him speaking to me. He said: “Son of man, I am sending you to the Israelites, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against me; they and their ancestors have been in revolt against me to this very day. The people to whom I am sending you are obstinate and stubborn. Say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says.’ And whether they listen or fail to listen for they are a rebellious people they will know that a prophet has been among them. And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them or their words. Do not be afraid, though briers and thorns are all around you and you live among scorpions. Do not be afraid of what they say or be terrified by them, though they are a rebellious people. You must speak my words to them, whether they listen or fail to listen, for they are rebellious. But you, son of man, listen to what I say to you. Do not rebel like that rebellious people; open your mouth and eat what I give you.”
When I read these verses, I felt God was confirming my calling to share His messages, even though I knew it would be a challenging journey, which has proven true.
After sensing God's prompting to look up the meaning of my name, I learned that my name, 'Angela,' means 'messenger of God.' This affirmed my conviction that I was called to be His messenger and began my journey.
As a new Christian, I started receiving messages for both individuals and the church. These often moved me deeply, feeling both God's love and sorrow over people's actions, including my own, which drove me to pray passionately for the church. For more information, see the document ‘One of the first messages I received for a stranger.’
Over the years I have felt inspired to write and share various messages for the church, which will be contained in a future book entitled ‘Heart Cry’.
Romans 15:13
Over 21 years, I believe I was inspired by God to write 40 poems, now collected in the book 'Return to Me.' Although I lacked writing experience and confidence, I believe God partners with those who feel unqualified so His power and glory are made evident through them. Despite our limitations, Jesus equips us for what we are called to do as we depend on the Holy Spirit. (See The Incredible Journey of 'Return to Me’ for details.), in My Blog section.
Called to write bible studies
At a prayer conference in Florida, I was encouraged to read 10 chapters of the Bible daily for a broader perspective. This experience laid a foundation that later helped me write all of the future bible studies. These will become available at a later date, see bible study section for descriptions. Pete and I were at a youth leader’s meeting I felt God ask the question “I want someone to reveal my heart, are you willing”? I also had a vision of God's hands filled with light gently resting on my husband’s and my heads. I kept this experience private for years before sharing it, and it shaped my calling to share God's heart throughout the coming years.
God divinely called us to be youth pastors in 2004, as described in ‘Called to be youth pastors,’ and began our ministry together then.
God guided me to develop a Bible study titled 'God on Centre Stage,' which I have facilitated with multiple groups. This study will soon be available for purchase on this website. Additionally, a complimentary copy of the Deborah study can currently be accessed here, (Bible studies Section, coming soon).
I want to share how the bible study 'God on Centre Stage' came to be. My husband Pete and I, inexperienced youth pastors, felt God's clear call and promise to equip us for our new role. On our way to our first youth conference, we prayed about what to teach the young people and we decided to teach them about biblical characters.
We arrived at the youth conference and during a sermon, the speaker unexpectedly stopped what he was preaching about and said, "Don’t just teach on the characters in the Bible, but put God on centre stage." We were amazed, knowing God had guided us. Our mission was clear: highlight what biblical characters reveal about God, making Him the focus. Over the years God has guided me by the power of His Holy Spirit and His word in creating this bible study, I view this bible study as a tool, as if it’s a treasure map, and God is the treasure that we discover together.
In 2004, I experienced a powerful sense of God's presence and heard the message: "I'm sending you ahead with reserves for my people." Although I didn't understand it then, I've since realised my role is to share the resources and teachings God has given me to help others grow in their faith.
God speaks 7 messages through life’s circumstances
Years ago, I realised my experiences reflected seven messages intended for the church, a template of repentance conveyed through my life’s circumstances. (See ‘My Life’s Message: A Living Parable of the Church.), under My Blog section.
Future plans
I plan to start a YouTube channel to share my testimony of becoming a follower of Jesus and other stories that inspire hope and faith. The channel will feature Bible studies, tools for studying scripture, poetry readings, devotionals, and messages I feel compelled to share, including guidance for spiritual challenges and a battle plan to help us stand firm in the days ahead. The you tube channel will be called ‘Hungry hearts’.
